WHY NOT CENTRIFUGAL PUMP ??... FOR DOSING PURPOSE.

We know that only reciprocating pump is used for dosing purpose in a chemical plant, and other industries.before that first, we have understood about dosing.

WHAT IS DOSING PUMP ? 

These are all the diminutive or small low capacity reciprocating plunger or diaphragm pump.

WHY DOSING PUMPS ARE USED?

Dosing pump is used to pump a low capacity liquid injected into a high-pressure process operation.

DESCRIPTION:-

Generally, in process plant, chemical plant or in refinery's reciprocating pump is used for dosing purpose.

Now we come on the main topic that is dosing of chemical is very necessary for many process industries for preventing corrosion in the pipeline or for making some solution of chemicals. many time due to process characteristics some acid like HCl is formed in a system which accumulates corrosion in piping and detoriate life of piping and equipment.there is many more purposes of dosing as per different process requirement.

here in all above case of dosing very small amount of dosing is required and we know that chemical dosing rate of reciprocating pump can be easily controlled based on flow rate of process fluid and more important reciprocating pump discharge constant flow rate irrespective of the pressure of the system.regulation of dosing in reciprocating pump is adjust by adjusting stroke length which can be more difficult in centrifugal pump. from 0% to 100% stroke length adjusting probe is provided in a reciprocating pump. this pump will continuous dosing at a constant flow rate at specific stoke length even if there is pressure fluctuation in process fluid line or system.

For your knowledge, one question arises here is that does cavitation occurs in dosing or reciprocating pump? 

then Answer is YES, cavitation occurs in any type of pump when suction pressure of pump drop below vapor pressure.
